Isack Hadjar is finally back in the Red Bull cockpit for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku this weekend. The French driver had been sidelined for three races after suffering a wrist injury during training ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix in August.
The injury forced Hadjar to watch from the sidelines while Liam Lawson filled his seat. Now, after recovery, Hadjar is ready to return, and the team confirmed his participation today, September 22.
Before his return, Hadjar consulted with MotoGP champion Marc Marquez, who suffered a right humerus fracture in 2020. Marquez advised against rushing a comeback, sharing his painful experience of returning too soon. That advice helped Hadjar make his decision.
In an official statement, Red Bull welcomed Hadjar back. “Oracle Red Bull Racing is delighted to welcome Isack back this weekend,” the statement read. “Having made a successful recovery from his wrist injury, Isack will return to action at the Baku City Circuit on Thursday.”
Red Bull also thanked Liam Lawson, who stepped in for the past three races. Lawson will now return to the Racing Bulls team to see out the season alongside Arvid Lindblad. “The team would like to sincerely thank Liam for his professionalism, dedication, and hard work over the past three races. Stepping in under challenging circumstances, he delivered some impressive performances and made a valuable contribution,” the statement continued.
The consequence of Hadjar's return is the end of Yuki Tsunoda's stint as a fill-in at Racing Bulls. Tsunoda scored a single point in his three appearances, finishing 10th at Monza. Now, he must return to his original role, while Lawson goes back to Racing Bulls.
Hadjar's return to Red Bull and Lawson's move to Racing Bulls mark a new chapter for both teams. Hadjar must prove himself after injury, while Lawson will aim to showcase his best at Racing Bulls. All eyes will be on Baku as Hadjar makes his comeback.
