Gresini Honors Simoncelli with Special Livery at Misano

MotoGP returns to Misano for the San Marino Grand Prix, and the Gresini Racing team has prepared a special tribute. This weekend, they will race with the iconic colors of Marco Simoncelli's bike, the same one he rode in his tragic accident in Malaysia 2011. This is no ordinary race; it's a heartfelt homage from the Italian squad.

The Misano circuit was renamed in honor of Marco Simoncelli in 2012, a year after his passing. For Gresini, who also lost team principal Fausto Gresini in 2021, this moment is deeply personal. They want to ensure Simoncelli's legacy lives on, especially in front of the Italian tifosi.

The special livery will be used by Alex Marquez and Fermin Aldeguer only on Sunday for the race. According to team procedures, livery changes are made solely for the race due to technical reasons such as part replacements and potential crashes. During practice and qualifying, the bikes will retain their regular color scheme.

The unveiling was attended by Paolo Simoncelli, Marco's father, as well as Carmelo and Carlos Ezpeleta from Dorna, and designer Aldo Drudi. In an official statement, Gresini described the moment as a full tribute to the bike that accompanied Marco's tragically short MotoGP career. Paolo's presence added emotional weight to the event.

Gresini is known for its attention to detail in honoring legends. Previously, they created a special livery to celebrate Sete Gibernau's victory at Sachsenring 2003. Now, Simoncelli's iconic colors will once again grace the Misano asphalt, carrying a memory and spirit that never fades.

For MotoGP fans, this sight will be a reminder of Simoncelli's extraordinary talent and his family-like bond with Gresini. The team, now led by Nadia Padovani, continues to uphold its tradition as the most human team on the grid, where memories and tributes are always part of the racing.
