George Russell could only laugh off his latest misfortune after a late engine failure robbed him of a certain podium finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix in Sepang. Starting down in seventh, the Mercedes charger initially thrived in the tricky damp conditions by gambling on intermediate tyres and surging forward at the start.
Just as he positioned himself to capitalize on a late safety car restart, a power unit failure brought his race to a sudden halt. It marks his second pure technical DNF of the season, compounding a frustrating run of reliability issues that have severely dented his championship ambitions.
With the gap to his teammate swelling to an unprecedented 84 points, Russell acknowledges the reality of the situation while vowing to keep fighting. He refuses to completely write off the title race mathematically, though he admits luck has simply not been on his side this year.

Team principal Toto Wolff shared the immense frustration, describing the Malaysian weekend as one of his worst personal experiences as the Silver Arrows missed out on crucial points and victory.
