George Russell faced a bitter pill to swallow at Sepang after a late technical failure robbed him of a certain podium finish. Carrying strong momentum into Malaysia following his stellar victory in Baku, the British driver was forced to park his car on lap 50 due to a sudden power unit issue.
Having led the opening stages, Russell had settled into a solid rhythm in third place behind teammate and championship leader Kimi Antonelli within the Mercedes garage. Instead of losing a minimal three points to his garage neighbor, a crucial swing turned a minor setback into an 18-point deficit, stretching his championship gap to 84 points.
Rather than expressing sheer anger, the driver reacted to his recurring misfortune with a wry laugh in the paddock. He noted that such mechanical heartbreaks have become far too familiar this season, effectively extinguishing any realistic hopes of mounting a late title charge.

As reported by Crash.net, Russell admitted that while the mathematical dream is all but gone, he remains determined to keep pushing hard and fighting through the remaining grands prix despite the cruel twist of fate.
