The FIA has formally detailed the root cause behind the unexpected power loss issues that disrupted the formation lap of the Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang. Front-row starters Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton notably suffered driveability troubles, forcing race control to abort the initial start sequence.

According to Crash.net, the sudden power deficit stemmed from an unprecedented cocktail of low engine speeds, low grip, wet-weather energy management mappings, and the specific sector layout of the Sepang International Circuit. These factors unintentionally triggered stringent energy limitations.

During the subsequent weather delay, the FIA Technical Department distributed an emergency software patch to all competing outfits. This update effectively lifted the energy constraints in the affected track sectors, allowing engineers to recalibrate their power units safely.

Despite extensive pre-season testing and pre-race laps, neither the governing body nor the teams had encountered this software anomaly prior to the formation lap. A thorough joint investigation is now underway alongside power unit manufacturers.
