The Supercars endurance season has arrived. The Bend in South Australia hosts the 500-kilometre warm-up for the Bathurst 1000 this weekend, and the betting market is already taking shape.
Broc Feeney and Nick Percat open as $3.25 favourites with Ladbrokes, backing their consistent speed and the experience of Percat as co-driver.
Behind them, it's tight. Matthew Payne and Will Davison are at $3.50 in the #19 Grove Racing Mustang, while DJR's Brodie Kostecki and Todd Hazelwood sit at $4.50. Notably, Feeney, Kostecki, and Payne have combined for 18 race wins this year, so the top of the market reflects current form.
Will Brown and Scott Pye lead the chasing pack at $6, followed by Cameron Waters/Mark Winterbottom at $8 and Kai Allen/Tim Slade at $10. All six of those drivers have won races in Supercars, highlighting the depth of competition this season.
Chaz Mostert and Fabian Coulthard are the best-placed Toyota pair at $11, with Ryan Wood/Jaxon Evans at $13 and Anton De Pasquale/Lee Holdsworth the shortest Chevrolet odds at $19. That could be significant value, given the Camaro has been granted an aero upgrade on the eve of The Bend.
The Kostecki qualifying factor
If there's one thing to watch before the race, it's where Kostecki qualifies on Saturday. Speedcafe data reveals a striking trend: when he qualifies on the front row, he converts it into a podium 85 percent of the time, equal with Feeney and Mostert as the best in the field. However, when he qualifies fifth or worse, he has only reached the podium once in 46 starts (2 percent). In contrast, Feeney, Mostert, and Brown convert those same starts to podiums roughly 20 percent of the time. So if Kostecki is back on the front row, the #17 is one of the strongest cars in the field.
