The opening practice session of the Formula 1 Mexico Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez immediately grabbed the paddock's attention as Charles Leclerc claimed the top spot. The Monegasque driver mastered the slippery, low-grip track to secure the fastest time, beating out young challengers in a session featuring ten rookie drivers.
Driving his Ferrari machine, Leclerc posted an impressive lap time of 1 minute 18.128 seconds. This performance put him comfortably six tenths ahead of Kimi Antonelli, who finished the session in second place. The unique conditions of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, which sees minimal track activity throughout the year, presented a massive track evolution challenge from the very first minute.
This opening session served as the designated platform for nine teams—excluding Maranello—to field young drivers in compliance with regulations. Mercedes utilized the opportunity by slotting in Frederik Vesti in place of George Russell. Vesti delivered a solid performance to complete the top three behind Antonelli, showcasing promising potential amidst conditions unrepresentative of Saturday's qualifying and Sunday's race.

Track dynamics were immediately apparent as lap times tumbled continuously during the early stages. Leclerc and Antonelli traded top spots on hard compound tires during the first half-hour, while technical issues plagued several garages, including power unit gremlins for Red Bull's Isack Hadjar and off-track excursions for McLaren.
As the session reached its halfway mark, soft tire runs dictated the ultimate hierarchy. Leclerc surged ahead with his benchmark time that remained unbeaten until the checkered flag dropped, leaving competitors trailing behind, including Lewis Hamilton in fourth and Ayumu Iwasa putting in a strong shift replacing Max Verstappen.
