F1 Drivers Slam Chaotic Malaysian GP Delay And Complex Power Units

Formula 1 drivers have launched blistering criticism against the chaotic scenes at the Malaysian Grand Prix, where torrential rain and software glitches exposed the extreme complexity of the 2026 power units. Max Verstappen and the rest of the grid were forced to endure lengthy delays and a botched formation lap start after multiple cars suffered mysterious shutdowns.

The initial start was delayed by 40 minutes due to heavy rain, but a subsequent attempt to get underway went awry when several cars stalled on the grid. George Russell didn't hold back his frustration, describing the entire afternoon as a disjointed affair that fell short of proper F1 entertainment.

"The power units are exceptionally complicated. The more complicated you make things, the more there is to go wrong," Russell stated, pointing to the delicate balance between internal combustion and electrical power.

Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz argued that the sport needs to seriously reevaluate the decision-making process behind current regulations, noting that such software-driven failures would have been completely unheard of during the V8 era.
