Andrea Kimi Antonelli alongside the Mercedes squad fully acknowledges that their era of absolute dominance in Formula 1 has faded, as rival top teams have leaped to the front and decent form is no longer a guarantee.
The Silver Arrows triumphed in the opening six grands prix of the 2026 campaign as F1 switched to new technical regulations. Later on, rival upgrades meant Ferrari claimed victories in Austria and Great Britain, McLaren took wins in Hungary and the Netherlands, and Red Bull prevailed in Malaysia and Singapore.
Mercedes did not hold off from updating its car either, but the team is well aware its performance advantage has been slashed significantly. That is despite holding a healthy lead in both championships, with a maiden world title within reach for their young star in Austin.

Deputy team principal Bradley Lord noted on the Nu Silver Arrows Radio Show that the team has sounded like a broken record regarding how close and competitive the season truly is, despite their early season success.
"We know we've got a real fight on our hands," Lord stated, emphasizing the crucial need to keep learning and extracting performance from the car to secure the results they aim for.
