Moto Rally, Sportrik Media - The Dakar Rally 2026 has entered its most critical phase as a succession of desert stages toward Bisha delivers drama, incidents, and high-stakes strategic battles across all categories. In the vast Saudi dunes, navigation accuracy, risk management, and physical endurance have emerged as the decisive performance differentiators, separating genuine title contenders from those struggling to survive the rally’s final stretch.

In the RallyGP bike category, the competitive landscape has been significantly shaken. Daniel Sanders suffered a major setback after a crash that resulted in a left shoulder injury, forcing him to reduce pace and lose substantial time relative to the stage leaders. At this advanced stage of the rally, any loss of momentum during marathon conditions carries immediate and potentially irreversible championship consequences.

The opening created by Sanders’ misfortune was seized decisively by Luciano Benavides and Adrien Van Beveren. Both riders adopted an aggressive yet calculated approach, reading the dunes with high precision and exploiting their start positions to gain ground in the virtual standings. Their performances reshaped the RallyGP hierarchy and intensified pressure on all remaining title candidates.

Meanwhile, Ricky Brabec continued to demonstrate the value of consistency. The Monster Energy Honda HRC rider avoided unnecessary risks, remained firmly in the leading group, and sustained strategic pressure in an increasingly intense Honda versus Red Bull KTM Factory Racing duel. At this stage of Dakar, controlled execution often proves more valuable than outright aggression.

In the Ultimate car category, the overall picture shifted rapidly once again. Nasser Al Attiyah underlined his reputation as one of Dakar’s finest tacticians by carefully managing race tempo rather than chasing outright stage wins. This measured approach allowed him to close the gap to the front and regain control of the virtual classification, a crucial advantage on long sandy stages where minor mistakes can cost minutes instead of seconds.

By contrast, Nani Roma endured a more difficult day after losing significant time due to rhythm and navigation issues. Despite the setback, he remains within reach of the overall fight, as time gaps among the leading contenders are still remarkably tight. Carlos Sainz continues to position himself strategically, maintaining competitive proximity without exposing himself to the kind of errors that frequently emerge during Dakar’s closing phases.

Drama was not confined to the headline categories. In Rally2, Neels Theric, a three-time stage winner this season, was forced to stop at kilometre 272 due to an engine issue. Although unable to finish the stage, Rally2 regulations allow him to rejoin the rally on the following day, preserving both competitive integrity and the mental resilience demanded of emerging talents.

Elsewhere, tension remained high across the field. In the Truck category, the duel between Ales Loprais and Vaidotas Zala intensified as time gaps fluctuated from sector to sector. In the Challenger and SSV classes, minimal margins ensured that every navigational call and speed management decision carried consequences right up to the final kilometres.

With terrain that continues to erode both physical stamina and mental focus, Dakar 2026 has now become a full-scale war of nerves. Precision navigation, mechanical reliability, and strategic clarity will determine who endures and who ultimately claims victory. At this point, the world’s most brutal rally is no longer decided by speed alone, but by the ability to control uncertainty in the heart of the desert.
