Doriane Pin is not just content with being the 2025 F1 Academy champion. The 22-year-old Frenchwoman has now set her sights on a high goal: securing a Formula 1 race seat within the next five years. In an exclusive interview titled "Mercedes In Convo With Kids", Pin openly stated her ambition.
"In Formula 1," she replied succinctly when asked where she sees herself in five years' time. "That would be cool. It will open some doors to all the girls that want to be a Formula 1 driver."
Pin's journey towards F1 is getting more serious. After winning the 2025 F1 Academy title, she was signed by Mercedes as a development driver. The pinnacle came in April 2026 when Pin became the first woman to drive a Mercedes F1 car at Silverstone, testing the 2021 W12. A historic moment that proved her speed on track.
However, don't think Pin is only focused on F1. She also serves as a development driver for Peugeot in the World Endurance Championship and Citroen in Formula E. Additionally, she still competes in the LMP2 Pro-Am class of the European Le Mans Series with Duqueine Team. Her schedule is packed, but it only shows her incredible flexibility and work ethic.
Off track, Pin is vocal about diversity. "Diversity, in general," she said when asked what she would change about the world. "So in sports and outside of sports, I think we need more diversity. So more opportunities for everyone. Especially with my experience in a male-dominated sport like motorsport. So it would be good if we had a lot of women also in Formula 1."
Should she reach F1, Pin would follow a small group of female drivers who have driven modern-era F1 machinery. Susie Wolff, now F1 Academy managing director, drove in official free practice sessions for Williams in 2014, becoming the first woman in 22 years to participate in a grand prix weekend. More recently, Aston Martin ambassador Jessica Hawkins completed a 26-lap test in the AMR21 at the Hungaroring in September 2023.
Pin's five-year target is not wishful thinking. With Mercedes' backing, her achievements across multiple series, and her determination to open doors for women, she could be the next name to break barriers in Formula 1.
