Anthony Di Mauro will finally get his chance to shine in GT4 Australia. The Aussie Racing Cars title contender is set to make his debut in the Monochrome GT4 Australia series with Gomersall Motorsport, partnering Aaron Seton in the Silver-Am class. The duo will pilot the #1 Ford Mustang, a car with a rich history.
The opportunity arose after regular driver Jason Gomersall became unavailable for the Sydney Motorsport Park round this weekend. Di Mauro didn't hesitate to seize the chance. “I’m super excited to be here, driving with one of my mates, Aaron Seton,” he said. “A massive thank you to Jason and Julie at Gomersall Motorsport for the opportunity, Jase throwing me the keys for his prized possession.”
For Di Mauro, this is more than just a debut. He has competed in various series, including the V8 SuperUte Series and Porsche Carrera Cup Australia. However, sharing the cockpit with Seton—who brings a wealth of knowledge—is an added bonus. “I’m really looking forward to working with Aaron, he’s got a wealth of knowledge, I’ll try and learn as much as I can, and hopefully we can get it up the front in Silver-Am,” he added.
Gomersall Motorsport has just recovered from a major setback. Gomersall suffered a huge crash in practice at Round 2 at The Bend, which required the Mustang to be re-shelled. As a result, they missed Round 3 at Queensland Raceway as Gomersall recovered from a concussion and the car was rebuilt. However, his return in Darwin yielded two podiums, bringing them to 11th in the Silver-Am standings, equal with Nick McBride/Dean Koutsoumidis, and only 37 points behind last year’s title rival Dean Campbell.
Meanwhile, the Silver-Am championship battle is heating up. Ryder Quinn’s lead has shrunk to just 15 points over Zac Soutar/Glenn Nirwan. With two races remaining, every point will count. Di Mauro’s presence in the #1 seat is expected to help the team secure maximum results and climb the standings.
Di Mauro is not the only driver making their debut at Sydney Motorsport Park. Kiwi Zach Blincoe, driver coach and former Bathurst wildcard Jesse Dixon, and Toyota Scholarship Series champion Tyler Collins will also be on the grid. They will all try their luck at the challenging circuit.
Monochrome GT4 Australia returns for the penultimate round of the season at Sydney Motorsport Park on September 18-20. The race is expected to be fiercely contested, especially with the influx of debutants eager to prove themselves. For Di Mauro, this is a new stage to show that he is not only quick in Aussie Racing Cars but also capable of competing at the GT4 level.
