Former Formula 1 star Daniel Ricciardo has revealed that a one-off appearance at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans could offer a pathway to return to the cockpit without committing to a full racing campaign. The Australian, who has been on the sidelines since the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, believes an endurance outing fits his current appetite for motorsport.
Appearing on F1’s Beyond the Grid podcast, Daniel Ricciardo was asked who he would most like to share a car with in an endurance lineup, immediately placing his former Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen near the top of his wish list. "I don’t want to put pressure on him, but obviously Max is a name that would be high on the list," Ricciardo stated when discussing the dream partnership.
The pair previously raced alongside each other at Red Bull from 2016 to 2018, securing four podium finishes together across 58 race weekends as teammates. Going a step further, Daniel Ricciardo suggested that another former Red Bull stablemate, Sebastian Vettel, could complete a formidable three-driver crew. "I freaking love Seb so that could be a nice little Red Bull reunion of sorts," he added regarding the potential lineup.

Although Ricciardo admitted to having little desire for a full-time professional comeback, his perspective on racing has visibly shifted since exiting the F1 grid. "A year ago, I would have said I will never put a helmet on again. I’m done. That’s it," he explained, noting a growing desire to achieve personal closure and finish his competitive journey on his own terms.
Working alongside co-drivers rather than battling them directly is another major appeal for the Australian veteran, who looks forward to sharing telemetry and engineering feedback. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen responded favorably to the concept while noting that his rigorous current schedule currently limits the extensive preparation required for Le Mans.
