Marc Marquez once again demonstrated why he is considered one of the greatest riders of all time. His victory at the San Marino Grand Prix in Misano last weekend was not just another win, but a statement that the Spanish rider is still at the peak of his powers. Ducati boss Gigi Dall'Igna described the performance as "Marc Marquez at his absolute best."
Dall'Igna, Ducati's General Manager, heaped praise on Marquez in a lengthy LinkedIn post. He expressed his joy at winning in front of the home fans. "A crucial win at this stage of the championship, and not just because these points put us at the top of both the riders' and constructors' championships," he said. "The thrill we get every time from a Marc at his absolute best is pure energy for us all."
For Dall'Igna, Marquez is more than just a fast rider. He called him a "special rider" who has the desire, ability, and humility to learn and improve. "A true professional who has earned the respect of the entire team on the track," he added. "He always knows when to push, when to hold back and when to attack: a true phenomenon who really brings out the best from the bike, our beloved 'princess'."
The Misano win was Marquez's eighth at the circuit and his fifth of the season. He capitalised on a crash for Marco Bezzecchi and arm pump for Jorge Martin. However, Dall'Igna stressed that Marquez won "in true Marc style": dominating the race by faultlessly managing his resources from start to finish, deciding when and how to attack without rushing, taking the least risk and without ever overdoing it.
This result propelled Marquez to the top of the standings for the first time this season. He has erased a 102-point deficit since the Italian Grand Prix, following his return from surgery on a nerve issue in his right shoulder. Back-to-back 37-point weekends show incredible consistency. Dall'Igna reminded that the championship is far from over. "We'll win with steady heads, as I've said before and will say again: by seeing races through to the end, whether on good tracks or less favourable ones," he said.
With eight wins at Misano, Marquez further cements his legacy as one of the sport's greats. But Dall'Igna emphasised that the team has achieved nothing yet. "Let's keep our heads focused on the championship, since we haven't achieved anything yet," he concluded. "We must keep pushing right to the end since the season is still a long way from over."
