Nicolo Bulega returns to Cremona with a big mission: clinching the 2026 WorldSBK title. But his path is far from easy as Iker Lecuona once again showed his strength by dominating Race 1.
The Italian had to settle for second in the opening race, though he felt his strategy was clever. Now, the Superpole Race is his first chance to seal the crown, but the math still doesn't favor him. Race 2 later this afternoon is the more likely decider.
Lecuona, who won by over five seconds, remains cautious. He knows Bulega has an impressive Sunday record—unbeaten all year. Both of Lecuona's wins this season came in Race 1, first at Donington and now at Cremona.
The fight for third in the championship is also heating up. Sam Lowes took a podium yesterday and closed in on Yari Montella, who crashed twice. Montella has had a tough weekend with four crashes since Friday, but he's known for bouncing back quickly.
Bad news came from Remy Gardner. The Australian was declared unfit due to a left hand fracture, becoming the second rider to withdraw this weekend after Tarran Mackenzie. Mackenzie's seat at MGM Ducati is taken by Loris Baz.
The Superpole Race starts at 11:10 local time, followed by Race 2 at 15:30. The tension at Cremona is palpable, especially with the title potentially decided within hours.
