Nicolo Bulega arrives at Cremona with a clear mission: to seal the 2026 WorldSBK title. After a dominant triple at Magny-Cours, the Italian leads the championship and has his second chance to become world champion. This time, the equation is simpler: he only needs to prevent Iker Lecuona from outscoring him by 23 points or more across the weekend's three races.
Bulega himself admits that Cremona is not his favourite circuit. Nicolo Bulega said he has to think too much when riding at Cremona, suggesting the layout doesn't naturally suit his style. Yet, he won all three races here last year, a record that keeps his rivals wary.
Meanwhile, Iker Lecuona arrives with competitive spirit. The Spaniard acknowledged the title is nearly out of reach but remains optimistic about taking race wins at Cremona. He hopes to exploit Bulega's discomfort at the track to maximise points and extend the title fight to the final round.
Third in the standings, Yari Montella carries valuable momentum from a positive Magny-Cours round. He now leads Alex Lowes by 46 points, a comfortable margin with nine races remaining. His Barni Ducati team is based near Cremona, making this a home race for them. Moreover, the team won all three races here in 2024.
However, for Alvaro Bautista, this weekend is expected to be challenging. The veteran has endured a tough season, and while he still hopes to perform well enough in the remaining races to secure options for 2027, no firm deals are in place. On the other side, Danilo Petrucci, who won all three races for Barni in 2024, also struggled at Magny-Cours, as did his BMW teammate Miguel Oliveira. Oliveira said BMW has not found a definitive cause for their French struggles, but hopes fortunes will improve in Italy.
In other news, Tarran Mackenzie remains sidelined with injuries sustained at Donington before the summer break. He will be replaced again by Loris Baz at MGM Ducati. FP1 is scheduled for 10:20 local time, with FP2 at 15:00. All eyes will be on Bulega and Lecuona as they hit the track at Cremona.
