The incident began when Blaney, driving for Team Penske, passed Hocevar for second place. As they entered Turn 1, Hocevar in the Spire Motorsports Chevrolet dove to the inside, making contact with Blaney's Ford Mustang. "We got clear off there, off of [Turn] 4 and I tried to protect the bottom and he crossed and never lifted and [I] got crashed," Blaney said immediately after the incident. "That's what I thought happened, that's what it looked like happened." When asked if he bore any responsibility, Blaney replied, "I don't fucking know. I got crashed. Each person is going to say they did nothing wrong."
Meanwhile, Joey Logano, who narrowly avoided the spinning Blaney, went on to win the race after Hocevar and Ty Gibbs battled for the lead with four laps remaining, opening the door for Logano. Gibbs slipped to fifth, while Hocevar lost second to Kyle Larson by five thousandths of a second.
After the race, tensions escalated on pit road. Blaney confronted Hocevar, grabbing him by the scruff of his race suit, and Hocevar responded with two punches. The drivers were briefly separated before Blaney rushed at Hocevar again to return serve. This incident adds to the growing list of on-track rivalries in NASCAR, especially with championship implications.
With this result, Blaney's position in the standings is now precarious. He lost valuable points that could see him eliminated from title contention. Logano's victory, on the other hand, gives him a significant boost in the championship hunt.
