Marco Bezzecchi topped MotoGP Practice at the British Grand Prix on Friday, setting a new absolute lap record of 1'56.280 at Silverstone. The Aprilia rider's stunning pace saw eight riders dip under the previous lap record of 1'57.233.
Early on, Alex Marquez set the pace, but Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez quickly joined the fray, with Aprilia and Ducati showing strong form from the start.
Mid-session, Raul Fernandez took over the top spot. Then Marc Marquez made a statement by breaking the old record with a 1'57.013, signaling a fierce battle for supremacy.
Incidents punctuated the session: Brad Binder crashed at Turn 7, while Francesco Bagnaia and Pedro Acosta also had moments. Despite the drama, the times kept tumbling.
In the final minute, Fernandez posted a 1'56.615 to snatch the record. But Bezzecchi responded immediately with a phenomenal 1'56.280, securing the fastest time of the day and a new lap record.
The result puts Bezzecchi ahead of Fernandez, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Jorge Martin, and Ai Ogura. With eight riders under the old record, Silverstone is set for a thrilling qualifying and race.
