Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Audi has confirmed the signing of Ralph Boschung as a development driver ahead of its first full works Formula 1 campaign in 2026.
The German manufacturer is entering a new era as a factory team following the completion of its transition from Sauber. Pre-season preparations began in Barcelona before continuing with winter testing in Bahrain as Audi accelerates its integration programme under the new regulations.
Audi’s full-time driver line-up for 2026 consists of Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto, who previously partnered at Sauber during the transition phase leading to Audi’s takeover.
Boschung will support development of the R26 challenger, contributing through simulator work, data analysis and factory-based testing programmes as Audi builds the foundations of its long-term project.
“New development driver – building the future with us,” read a short statement from Audi. “We are proud to welcome Swiss driver Ralph Boschung as our development driver. Congratulations on taking the next step with us.”
Boschung brings extensive experience from Formula 2, having competed for multiple seasons in the category. He secured one race victory and several podium finishes during his time in F2, with his last full campaign coming in 2023.
His appointment strengthens Audi’s technical structure behind the scenes and complements its broader talent pipeline, which also includes junior prospect Freddie Slater as part of the newly established Audi junior programme.
The move underlines Audi’s commitment to building depth within its development framework as it prepares to compete in a highly competitive 2026 Formula 1 landscape under the revised aerodynamic and power unit regulations.
