Kimi Antonelli may be enjoying the strongest season of his Formula 1 career, but the Mercedes driver admits there are still important questions about his own potential that remain unanswered.
The championship leader has won five of the opening seven grands prix of the 2026 season and holds a 41-point advantage over his closest rival. Those results have established him as the clear favourite for the world title, a stark contrast to the difficulties he faced during his rookie campaign in 2025.
Last season, Antonelli endured a significant loss of form during the European leg of the championship. The downturn even prompted the first public criticism from Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff, who described the Italian's performance at his home Grand Prix as underwhelming.

Despite the disappointment of that period, Antonelli now views the experience as a crucial stage in his development, helping him mature both on and off the track.
"Last year was definitely a difficult period. I would doubt myself a lot, especially during that tough phase in Europe."
"But after one year in Formula 1, you mature a lot, not only as a driver but also as a person. During that difficult period, I got to know myself much better."
Although his confidence has grown considerably, Antonelli believes his biggest challenge now is understanding how much further he can progress while competing at the front of Formula 1.
"This year I haven't really been questioning or doubting myself. However, there are still questions that need to be answered. How much further can I go? How much more can I push myself? How much more can I grow, and how big is the potential?"
Those questions are likely to be tested over the remainder of the season. With a championship battle unfolding around him, Antonelli faces the biggest examination of his Formula 1 career so far. For the young Italian, 2026 is becoming about more than victories and points—it is also about discovering the true limits of his talent.
