Andrea Kimi Antonelli etched his name into Formula 1 history by winning the 2026 Italian Grand Prix at Monza on Sunday, becoming the first Italian driver to triumph at the 'Temple of Speed' in 60 years. The race was marred by a dramatic crash for Charles Leclerc on lap 2, which brought out the red flag. The Ferrari driver lost control at the exit of Parabolica while battling Oscar Piastri, careering into the barriers in an almost carbon copy of his 2020 shunt. At the restart, Russell led but Antonelli, who had already climbed to 12th before the red flag, continued his charge. With superior pace and strategic calls, he seized the lead and never looked back, crossing the line ahead of Russell. Max Verstappen completed the podium, taking his first rostrum since the summer break.
This victory is a massive boost for Antonelli's maiden title bid, adding 25 points to his tally. His performance at Monza will be remembered as one of the great Italian GP wins, showcasing his immense talent and determination.
