Alpine Signs Former Mercedes CTO Mike Elliott to Bolster Technical Team
TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Alpine has strengthened its F1 technical department

Alpine has officially announced the appointment of Mike Elliott as its new Chief Technical Officer. The move signals the team's ambition to climb the Formula 1 grid.

Elliott is no stranger to the paddock. He spent 11 successful years with Mercedes, playing a key role in the team's eight consecutive constructors' championships. The 52-year-old left Mercedes at the end of 2023 after a challenging period.

Elliott's return to Enstone marks a second spell with the team, having previously served as principal aerodynamicist from 2008 to 2012. Overall, he brings 23 years of F1 experience with Renault, McLaren, and Mercedes.

At Mercedes, Elliott was instrumental in the team's dominance from 2014 to 2021, first as head of aerodynamics and then as technology director. However, the radical 'zero-pod' sidepod concept in 2022 led to a downturn in performance. Elliott was moved to the CTO role in early 2023 as part of a major reorganisation that saw James Allison return as technical director.

Mercedes eventually abandoned the 'zero-pod' design and only returned to competitiveness with the new engine regulations in 2026. Since the 2026 season, Mercedes has also supplied power units to Alpine.

Alpine currently sits sixth in the constructors' championship with 68 points after 16 races, nine points behind fifth-placed Racing Bulls. Elliott's arrival is expected to boost the team's technical performance.

With his experience and expertise, Elliott is expected to help Alpine challenge at the front. This move underscores the team's commitment to continuous development under evolving technical regulations.
