Fernando Alonso has insisted there is "no urgency" in deciding his Formula 1 future with Aston Martin. The two-time champion is yet to commit to the team for the 2027 season, and the Silverstone-based squad is awaiting his call.

Aston Martin has voiced its desire to continue its relationship with Alonso, who has endured a challenging campaign thus far. The AMR26 car has proved uncompetitive, and Alonso has scored just three points. When asked if the team would need an answer soon for its planning, Alonso told media including RacingNews365: "Sure, sure. Those [other] drivers [on the grid], they were visiting Lawrence in the summer. No urgency."

Alonso explained that he is waiting to see if he will be satisfied with next year's cars before making a decision. "It's a matter of understanding what the rules from next year will have an impact or not on the racing and on the driving side of things," he said. "The current cars, as I said many times, are not the best cars to drive and to enjoy. But next year there is a step in the right direction, hopefully."

He added: "At the same time, I need to think what is the best programme for next year and sit with the team. If it's behind the wheel or in another role, I will be helping the most. That will be the most important thing to decide together."

Meanwhile, other drivers have confirmed their places on next year's grid, with no big movers announced as of yet. Aston Martin will likely wait for Alonso's decision before finalising its plans. With his experience and speed, Alonso remains a valuable asset, but he is in no rush to make a call that could shape his future.

Alonso's decision will be one of the intriguing storylines ahead of the 2027 season, especially with significant regulation changes. If he chooses to continue racing, he will face a new challenge with cars expected to be more enjoyable to drive. If not, he may transition to a managerial or ambassador role, contributing in a different capacity.
