Alex Marquez experienced a bittersweet Saturday in Sepang after securing his first pole position of the season and briefly leading the Sprint race, only to crash out while holding the lead. The Spanish rider admitted that he made a minor mistake in a low-grip section of the circuit where a few drops of rain were falling, though he clarified that the water was not the direct cause of the crash and that he emerged physically unscathed from the heavy impact.
Beyond the sporting setback, the primary concern for Marquez lies in his ongoing physical struggles. Following the severe injury sustained in Montmelo, the Gresini rider confessed that he is still dealing with persistent issues in his right shoulder and collarbone, suffering from bursitis that forces him to undergo pain-killing injections at every single race weekend, though the treatment is increasingly losing its effectiveness.
Consequently, the Catalan rider is actively discussing with his doctor, Samuel Antuna, the possibility of undergoing surgery as early as next week. Such a procedure would likely force him to miss the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix, with the ultimate goal of arriving fully recovered for the final rounds in Portimao and Valencia.

"Cometi un error muy pequeno, pero con este calor y con un nivel de adherencia bastante bajo, un pequeno error tuvo estas consecuencias: todo estaba al limite," Alex Marquez explained regarding the incident to collaborator Manuel Pecino, as reported by Motosan.es.
Despite the high-speed tumble, he confirmed his physical wellbeing. "Si, estoy bien. Ha sido como un choque a gran velocidad, pero, fisicamente, estoy bien. Hubo un pequeno impacto por atras, pero no fue la causa ni el motivo de la caida," he added, noting that the morning pole position had given him a tremendous boost in confidence.
