Alex Marquez Claims Sepang Podium Before Shoulder Surgery

A dramatic race weekend at the Sepang Circuit concluded with a surprising announcement from Alex Marquez after he successfully secured a hard-fought third-place finish. Amidst physical discomfort stemming from an accident earlier in the season at Montmelo, the Gresini Racing rider put on a resilient display throughout the premier class race. Climbing onto the podium behind his brother Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta serves as a high note before he steps away for mandatory surgery on Monday.

Speaking to media after the race, the Spanish rider admitted that he had to carefully manage his energy levels from the opening laps to avoid repeating the mistake that caused his crash during the previous day's Sprint race. Knowing the limitations of his physical condition, he executed a calculated strategy to conserve his tires and physical stamina before pain inevitably set in during the latter stages of the grand prix.

"I tried to do the absolute best I could and managed my pace early on. I knew yesterday's crash happened at a point where I suffer greatly with my physical condition, and today I did not want to make the same mistake," Alex Marquez explained. He further noted that controlling the motorcycle became increasingly difficult as the laps wound down, admitting he nearly crashed with two laps to go while fending off fierce pressure from his rivals.

The major news arrived when he confirmed that his planned offseason surgery is being brought forward immediately. Following medical evaluations, the procedure on his right collarplate and shoulder bursitis will be performed by Dr. Samuel Antuna. This decisive move means he will unfortunately miss the upcoming round in Qatar, prioritizing a swift recovery to return to competitive action ahead of the season finale.

"Mission accomplished by finishing on the podium, and I also want to announce that tomorrow morning I will undergo surgery. Now it is time to take off the leather suit, catch an early flight home, and get ready for the medical procedure with Dr. Samuel Antuna," he concluded.
