The Dutch Grand Prix sprint at Zandvoort has just ended and it's already sparking plenty of paddock chatter. While this short race once again proved that overtaking on this track remains a nightmare, there were plenty of interesting signals for teams and drivers ahead of this afternoon's qualifying.
The standout performance came from Ferrari. The SF26 looked very convincing on the soft tyre, and Charles Leclerc is showing an ever-growing connection with his car. The Monegasque looked comfortable with the balance, especially thanks to an effective front-end in the fast corners without overworking the rears.
Interestingly, the latest evolution with the new floor has made Ferrari better at managing tyre degradation. This was clear in the final sector, where Leclerc's pace was consistently strong, making a difference on the main straight. In the slow corners, the SF26 is the benchmark. However, the story is different on the other side of the garage, with Lewis Hamilton still struggling to adapt to the aero-mechanical balance changes. This will be a key story to watch in qualifying, especially with parc ferme in play.

McLaren, on the other hand, has a contrasting character. The MCL40 is set up with an aggressive front-end balance, making it extremely quick over one lap, especially in the fast sweepers. But the race pace suffers. Lando Norris' rear tyres gave up too early, particularly in the final corners where traction onto the straight is vital. This could be a serious weakness over a longer distance.
With the gaps between the top teams being so tight, this afternoon's qualifying is set to be a nail-biter. The battle between Ferrari's slow-corner advantage and McLaren's high-speed prowess will be decisive. One thing is certain: Zandvoort has again proven that racing isn't just about pure speed, but also about tyre management and strategy.
