The opening practice session of the Monochrome GT4 Australia at Sandown was abruptly halted by a red flag just 15 minutes into the first of two 40-minute sessions. The disruption occurred when Lawrence spun off the exit kerb on the inside of Turn 1.

Lawrence’s #32 Randall Racing BMW M4 made impact with the left-front, climbing on top of the armco barrier before coming to rest on all four wheels. Despite the spectacular nature of the incident, from the outside the car appeared to carry only relatively minor damage on the front end, however the extent of damage underneath remained unknown.

The crash drew a 15-minute red flag period while the barrier was repaired, with the session resuming with 10 minutes remaining on the clock. McLarens and Mustangs flew in the early running, a trend which continued throughout the session as competitive lap times poured in.
