Franco Colapinto has secured his Formula 1 future with Alpine, signing a contract extension that keeps him with the team until the 2027 season, continuing as Pierre Gasly’s team-mate for a third consecutive year.
Alpine announced the news on Wednesday, following Colapinto’s impressive 2026 campaign. The 23-year-old has shown greater consistency this season, adding 19 points to the team’s tally after an improved car performance.
His best result came in Montreal, where he finished sixth, and he currently sits 12th in the drivers’ standings after 12 rounds. The decision to retain Colapinto was reinforced by his strong showings in Miami and Montreal, proving he belongs in F1.
Team principal Flavio Briatore emphasized the importance of stability. "We are very happy to confirm our driver line-up for 2027 with Franco staying as a race driver alongside Pierre," he said. "Consistency is key, and I’ve seen Franco grow into a great driver this year."
Colapinto expressed his delight at staying. "I’m very pleased to remain with this team for 2027. We have many milestones to achieve, and I know the team is working hard to improve the car," he said. "Our long-term goals are clear – to compete and win – and I’m grateful for the trust placed in me."
Colapinto’s F1 journey began when he replaced Logan Sargeant at Williams in 2024, before joining Alpine as a reserve driver. He stepped into a race seat after Jack Doohan was dropped post-Miami 2025. Despite a tough start, his potential and sponsorship support secured his place for 2026 and now beyond.
With this new deal, Alpine locks in the Gasly-Colapinto pairing for 2027, providing the stability needed to push towards the front of the grid.
