Claudio Domenicali Says Ducati MotoGP Project Is Safe

Claudio Domenicali has insisted that Ducati is in very good shape amid rumours over a possible sale of Volkswagen assets, including the Borgo Panigale manufacturer.

The speculation followed comments from a Volkswagen spokesperson, who did not directly dismiss the possibility of the automotive group selling some of its assets, including Ducati. The statement said every part of the Volkswagen Group, including its brands and subsidiaries, was undergoing a profound transformation.

Although the rumours have centred on Ducati’s ownership structure, none of them have specifically mentioned its MotoGP project. Domenicali’s comments now further strengthen that position, with the Ducati CEO underlining the company’s business foundation and long-term investment plan.

“The company is in very good shape. It is also completely self-standing,” Domenicali told MCNews.

“We do not really need support from the shareholder to make our investment plan for the future, to make the new models. It is a very solid investment plan,” he said.

Domenicali also said there are no discussions currently taking place in Borgo Panigale. He acknowledged that buying a new company or divesting an asset remains a possibility for the shareholder, depending on its needs, but stressed that no active process is happening at Ducati.

“At the moment, there is no discussion happening in Borgo Panigale. That is part of the shareholder possibility, depending on their needs, to buy a new company or to disinvest something. So it is not something that is completely impossible, but actually for the time being, there is nothing going on in Borgo Panigale,” he said.

The statement does not completely rule out future ownership changes, but it indicates that Ducati’s MotoGP project is under no immediate threat. With Ducati established as a major force in the premier class, organisational stability remains a significant factor heading into the championship’s next phase.
