Charles Leclerc is heading into the final stages of the Formula 1 season with growing confidence following an impressive second-place finish at the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. This strong result marks back-to-back podium finishes for the Monegasque driver, following a similar performance at the Singapore Grand Prix and replicating his strong form from earlier in the season.
Ferrari arrived at the Austin weekend equipped with fresh technical upgrades that immediately demonstrated competitive pace during Friday practice sessions. Throughout the weekend at COTA, the Scuderia machinery appeared exceptionally strong as Charles Leclerc topped both Free Practice 1 and Free Practice 2, before Lewis Hamilton set the pace in Free Practice 3 on Saturday morning.
Despite showing dominant speed in practice, difficulties in bringing the tyres up to optimal working temperature during qualifying limited the team to fourth and fifth on the starting grid. Nevertheless, Charles Leclerc executed a stellar recovery during the Grand Prix on Sunday to secure a runner-up finish, validating the performance step provided by the latest development package.
"Whether I can convert that into a win is a bit difficult to predict, because it’s such fine margins, and it also depends on what the upgrade plans of the others are in upcoming races," Charles Leclerc explained. He noted that a combination of driving adjustments and improved car setup has unlocked a new level of comfort inside the cockpit.
"But the feeling with the car is getting better and better. These cars are very specific and unique, and I feel like, over the last two or three races, I’ve unlocked something again in terms of driving, and particularly set-up with my driving," he concluded. With further developments anticipated, Charles Leclerc remains firmly convinced that Ferrari can break their victory drought before the year concludes.
