After an 18-month restoration, the Commodore that Peter Brock raced in 1991 is back on track. Perkins Engineering completed the project and conducted a shakedown at Calder Park, marking the first step towards this year's Bathurst 1000.
The car has a unique history. Built by Perkins Engineering for the 1991 season, when Brock returned to Holden with Mobil backing, the partnership lasted only one season before Brock and this chassis moved to Advantage Racing. Although not the best year in Brock's career, the 1991 Bathurst campaign included a thrilling Top 10 Shootout lap that has become a YouTube sensation.
Race day was memorable for the wrong reasons. The car stopped on circuit with an electrical fault, which co-driver Andrew Miedecke fixed with the help of team radio and coordinated use of the onboard camera.
Jack Perkins, who documented the restoration on the Perkins Engineering YouTube channel, confirmed the car will appear at this year's Bathurst 1000. "I'm rapt to say the owner is taking it to Bathurst," he said. "It's going to form part of the 20th anniversary commemorations of Peter Brock's passing. I'm hoping you will see it, if not on track, near the track, around the track somewhere. If you get your backside to Bathurst this year, you'll be able to see PE 13 in the flesh."
The Bathurst 1000 will take place across October 8-11. The presence of this car adds an emotional dimension to the event, honoring Brock's legacy in Australian motorsport.
