MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Brad Binder admitted he was left “heartbroken” despite securing his best result of the season in the 2026 Jerez MotoGP Sprint, after a missed opportunity for victory slipped away.
The Red Bull KTM rider made a decisive strategic move by becoming the first rider to pit for wet tyres when rain arrived mid-race. The timing of the call initially placed him in a strong position to fight for the win.
Binder’s decision was soon followed by key rivals including Francesco Bagnaia, Marc Marquez, and Franco Morbidelli, all of whom eventually finished on the podium.

However, Binder’s race unravelled when he crashed on wet tyres just moments before he was set to inherit the race lead from riders still running on slicks.
Despite the setback, he remounted and continued, eventually finishing fourth, his strongest result of the 2026 campaign so far.
“Happy and heartbroken at the same time,” Binder said after the race.
He explained that although his pit-stop timing felt correct, the rapidly changing track conditions caught him out.
“I felt like I timed my pit entry well, but from one lap to the next there was so much more water. When I braked in the same place, I realised immediately something was wrong. I lost the front, slid off, picked up the bike and carried on,” he said.
Binder acknowledged that the mistake cost him a realistic chance of victory, given the race circumstances.
“I’m super disappointed in myself because if I hadn’t crashed, I know it would have been a win on the cards,” he added.
Nevertheless, he took a pragmatic view of the outcome, recognising the difficulty of the conditions and the fact he still secured a competitive finish.
“Sometimes things happen, and if you crash and still come fourth, it’s a good day I suppose,” Binder concluded.
Binder ultimately finished 8.752 seconds behind race winner Marc Marquez, who also capitalised on the unpredictable conditions to secure victory.
The race underlined the fine margins in flag-to-flag scenarios, where decisive strategy can create winning opportunities, but rapidly shifting grip levels can just as quickly eliminate them.
