Maximo Quiles once again showed his class in Moto3. The Aspar rider won the Aragon Grand Prix in dramatic fashion, breaking away from a four-rider battle on the final lap to claim his seventh win of the season.
Starting from third, Quiles immediately glued himself to polesitter David Almansa. For the first ten laps, he chose to sit behind, reading the pace, then took over when the speed in the front group began to drop.
However, two small mistakes briefly allowed Almansa to regain the lead. Everything changed on the final lap: Quiles pulled the pin, set the fastest time, and finished 0.264 seconds ahead. This win feels especially sweet given he just recovered from a broken collarbone at Silverstone two weeks ago.
Almansa had to settle for second for Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP, after fighting hard to close the gap. Third place went to Quiles' teammate, Marco Morelli, completing an all-KTM podium. A sweet third podium for the front-row starters.
Behind them, Alvaro Carpe from Red Bull KTM Ajo finished fourth, followed by Brian Uriarte who had to serve a long lap penalty for a Friday infringement. Top rookie Adrian Cruces impressed with sixth for CIP Green Power.
An incident between Tech3 teammates Rico Salmela and Valentin Perrone colored the final laps. Salmela, who was seventh, dropped to 22nd, while Perrone escaped without penalty after review. Casey O'Gorman took advantage to move up to seventh.
With this result, Quiles strengthens his lead in the championship. His season has been outstanding: scoring points in every race he's started, except in Britain. Aragon is further proof that he is the strongest title contender.
