Jorge Martin has been cleared to ride in the opening practice session at Sepang this weekend, defying expectations following a high-speed crash at Phillip Island just six days prior that resulted in a fractured right wrist. The incident allowed Marc Marquez to snatch the World Championship lead by ten points, though the damage to the championship hunt could have been significantly worse had the Australian round not faced cancellation.
Despite an injury that typically requires a four-to-five-week recovery timeline, the Spanish contender is determined to complete the grueling Malaysian weekend. Aprilia team manager Paolo Bonora praised the rider's fighting spirit while emphasizing that the Italian manufacturer is adopting a strictly pragmatic stance to protect their championship hopeful from compounding his physical woes.
"Absolutely, he's a fighter, because it happened only six days ago. So it is something special to see him here," Paolo Bonora told MotoGP.com, noting the clear discomfort the rider is currently enduring. With the opening morning session expected to be wet, the team plans to let him test the waters gently before re-evaluating his physical status at the medical center.

Initial fears suggested multiple bone fractures, but subsequent scans ruled out an ulna injury and confirmed the radius fracture was non-displaced, providing a slight boost to the recovery timeline managed closely by his medical staff in Kuala Lumpur. However, sustaining race distance strength remains an unknown variable that the team intends to monitor on a minute-by-minute basis throughout the weekend.
"We have to avoid any risk, because he has a fracture. He has not a displaced fracture, but he has not to crash on it another time," Bonora added, underlining the explicit warning given to the rider to prioritize safety over forcing a desperate result. With Marquez holding a ten-point advantage and potential maximum points on the line, Aprilia remains focused on preserving energy for the final rounds rather than risking a catastrophic setback.
