The 2026 MotoGP season has been a tough test for Marco Bezzecchi. After a brilliant start, a series of mistakes cost him many points. Now, his team speaks out about how they are helping him recover.
Paolo Bonora, Aprilia's team manager, revealed that they have found a formula to prevent Bezzecchi from repeating the same mistakes. According to him, Bezzecchi's main issue is his tendency to try too hard early in races, especially in long ones.
"We have to take care of Marco in the long-distance races to be more calm and not to put any pressure. We don't put any expectations on him. We have seen that he made some mistakes where he felt that he had a big potential, that he can do the best lap time, but probably he tried to do more than necessary in the first part of the race," Bonora said in the official MotoGP broadcast.
Bezzecchi, who was once the title favorite after winning three of the first four races in Buriram, Goiania, and Austin, hit a low point during the Brno marshal incident that led to a race ban. A poor weekend at Assen and a double injury at Sachsenring worsened his situation.
However, full support from Aprilia paid off. Bezzecchi returned to the podium with a double finish at Silverstone, solidifying his second place in the standings, just 31 points behind teammate Jorge Martin. Bonora emphasized that the team never lost faith in Bezzecchi.
"I like to say to him that he is the same Marco that we love in Mugello. He is the same rider and he has only to take care of his energy. This is the only way," Bonora added.
Aprilia itself faces a topsy-turvy season despite having arguably the fastest bike on the grid. The fierce challenge from reigning champion Ducati makes every point precious. With 10 races remaining, Aprilia's focus is to keep Bezzecchi calm and consistent to maintain his title hopes.
