David Almansa asserted his dominance at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli by clinching his sixth pole position of the season in Moto3 San Marino Grand Prix qualifying. The Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider set a best time of 1'40.612s, edging out rookie Brian Uriarte by 0.217 seconds.
Almansa had shown impressive pace since Friday practice, consistently running at the front despite occasionally running wide onto the rumble strips. However, on his final attempt, the Spaniard perfected his lap to secure the top spot.
Brian Uriarte, a rookie with Red Bull KTM Ajo, bounced back from a huge crash on Friday. In qualifying, he mounted a strong challenge and finished second, just shy of Almansa. Meanwhile, Joel Kelso completed the front row in third, being the top Honda rider in Q2.
Valentin Perrone, who previously took pole at Misano, had to settle for fourth. He was the last rider within half a second of Almansa. Championship leader Maximo Quiles qualified fifth, 0.515 seconds adrift.
Matteo Bertelle finished sixth, followed by Casey O'Gorman who used a slipstream to take seventh. Rico Salmela, Alvaro Carpe, and Scott Ogden rounded out the top ten.
In Q1, Alvaro Carpe was frustrated by slow riders but eventually led the session to advance to Q2. He was joined by both MT Helmets riders, Ryusei Yamanaka and Rookie Danish, as well as Jesus Rios who held onto the final progression spot. Yamanaka finished 12th in Q2, while Danish was 18th.
The official Moto3 Misano records remain with Valentin Perrone for fastest race lap and best pole, while the all-time lap record belongs to David Alonso from 2024.
