Alex Palou has been handed a five-point championship penalty after IndyCar discovered a technical infringement on his No. 10 car following the Indianapolis 500. The sanction was issued after post-race scrutineering identified a non-compliant front-wing assembly on the Chip Ganassi Racing entry.
Palou finished seventh in the prestigious event, crossing the line just over one second behind race winner Felix Rosenqvist. The Swede secured victory after edging out David Malukas in a dramatic final-lap showdown that produced the closest finish in Indianapolis 500 history.
The 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 concluded with a one-lap sprint to the finish following a late red flag. Rosenqvist ultimately beat Malukas by just 0.0233 seconds, setting a new record for the smallest winning margin in the event's history.

Attention later shifted to technical inspections, where officials determined that Palou's front wing failed to meet the minimum ride-height requirements specified in the IndyCar regulations. Measurements showed the component fell below the mandated 8.3000-inch threshold when assessed in certain configurations.
After reviewing the case, IndyCar concluded the infringement resulted from an assembly error rather than a deliberate attempt to gain a competitive advantage. Officials found no evidence that the team intentionally modified the component outside the regulations.
As a result, Palou avoided disqualification and retained his seventh-place finish in the official race classification. IndyCar also elected not to impose a time penalty, allowing the Spaniard to keep his finishing position.
However, sanctions were still applied. Palou and the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing entry have been docked five championship points, while the team has received a $10,000 fine for the technical breach.
The penalty could have important implications in the 2026 IndyCar championship battle, where every point carries significant value as the season progresses. Indianapolis traditionally serves as a major turning point in the title race due to the scale and prestige of the event.
Although Palou's seventh-place finish demonstrated strong pace throughout the weekend, the points deduction serves as a reminder of the strict technical standards enforced across IndyCar competition. Maintaining regulatory compliance remains just as important as on-track performance in the pursuit of a championship.
