The FIA's World Motor Sport Council has officially confirmed crucial details for the upcoming World Rally Championship, ensuring that Rally1 cars remain the headline act for the 2027 season. Following Monday's meeting, these top-tier machines will be systematically divided into two distinct groups to shape the future of the championship.
Vehicles engineered to the WRC27 regulations—such as Toyota's unrevealed contender alongside fresh constructor entries from Project Rally One and WRT Rally1 Spain—will compete directly within the WRC Cars category. Meanwhile, M-Sport's recently tested 2027-spec Ford Fiesta will be designated as a WRC Kit Car, joining any existing Rally2 manufacturer opting to upgrade via the FIA's i7500 kit.
As previously reported by DirtFish, all Rally1 machines will adopt a 33mm turbo restrictor, superseding the 32mm version currently utilized by Rally2. In a historic first for the series, next season will introduce a Constructors' Championship rather than the traditional Manufacturers' title, exclusively open to Rally1 constructors committing to all 15 rounds on the calendar.

The WRC Teams' Championship will span seven nominated events, featuring a compulsory overseas trip and the season finale, restricted strictly to Rally1 machinery. While established feeder series like WRC2, WRC3, and WRC Masters remain intact, the governing body has also ratified a brand-new entry-level Rally6 class positioned below Rally5, priced competitively between i35,000 and i47,000.
