The Finnish Rally Championship is set to introduce a strategic new dynamic ahead of the 2027 season. As announced officially on their website, the prestigious series will adopt the familiar Power Stage format utilized in the World Rally Championship (WRC). This major regulatory shift will apply to every round, covering both the Finnish championship classes and the Suomi Cup.

Mirroring the established WRC format, extra points will be awarded to the fastest drivers on the final stage of each rally. Under the confirmed regulations, the fastest driver will secure five bonus points, with the allocation decreasing by one point per position down the order. Consequently, the fifth-fastest driver on the Power Stage will claim a single bonus point.

Bonus points on a closing stage have a rich history in top-tier rallying, having first been contested in the WRC back in 1999. The modern Power Stage has remained a continuous fixture since 2011, while the current system of rewarding the five fastest drivers has been active since 2017.

Prior to this permanent 2027 adoption, the Finnish series experimented with stage-specific speed competitions back in 2023. Secto Rally Finland Power Stage points were offered during early-season rounds, rewarding class-winning drivers with added visibility at Rally Finland, though those points did not contribute directly to the championship standings at the time.

The arrival of this new rule will drastically raise the stakes at the climax of every rally. Previously, a driver enjoying a comfortable lead could simply cruise through the final stage to reach the finish line. Starting next season, competitors will need to calculate their risk levels much more carefully. Furthermore, the rule offers a vital lifeline for drivers who suffered a poor start to claw back lost ground. The 2027 Finnish Rally Championship season is scheduled to kick off in Mikkeli on January 15–16.
