The second free practice session of the 2026 WorldSBK round in Jerez unfolded under scorching 30-degree summer conditions and clear blue skies. World champion Nicolo Bulega immediately set the benchmark, leading a commanding performance for Ducati as the red machines locked out the top positions.
Action was abruptly halted when Jake Dixon suffered a heavy crash at Turn 9. The English rider's Honda CBR1000RR tumbled multiple times through the gravel trap and was hurled over the airfence, forcing race control to deploy red flags while marshals cleared the track.
Prior to the stoppage, lap times struggled to match the morning benchmark due to the soaring asphalt temperatures. Technical gremlins also plagued the Pata Maxus squad as mechanics worked frantically in the pit lane to get Andrea Locatelli out on track after missing the opening minutes of the afternoon session.

As the session resumed, riders worked extensively on race setups, but high track temperatures kept overall improvements to a minimum. Late in the session, Alvaro Bautista also crashed at Turn 9, resulting in deleted lap times for several competitors attempting a final time attack.
Despite the interruptions, Sam Lowes secured second place to cement a dominant top-six lockout for Ducati. Meanwhile, Miguel Oliveira carved his way into seventh place, emerging as the strongest representative for BMW on a challenging afternoon.
