Johann Zarco is set to make an earlier-than-expected MotoGP return, with LCR Honda confirming his intention to race at the Aragon Grand Prix next weekend, subject to passing medical checks at the circuit.
The French rider has been absent since the multi-rider crash in Barcelona in May. Following a red flag in the Catalan Grand Prix, Zarco collided with Francesco Bagnaia and Luca Marini, getting trapped between the seat and rear wheel of Bagnaia's Ducati while traveling through the gravel.
The incident tore Zarco's medial collateral and anterior cruciate ligaments, with additional damage to his posterior cruciate ligament. Doctors opted against surgery, and his rehabilitation has progressed faster than initially anticipated.

Originally targeted for a September return, his recent progress has allowed him to resume riding in recent weeks. Training on Supermoto and CBR machines has helped build intensity and stamina, giving him confidence to rejoin the grid.
"I'm pretty happy with how the knee is progressing and recovering," Zarco said in a team statement. "I feel good enough to jump back on the MotoGP bike, and I'm really looking forward to getting back to racing. I've really missed my team, racing and the paddock, so I can't wait to be back in Aragon!"
Zarco will also have to serve a double long lap penalty on his return, as he was deemed at fault for the Barcelona incident. LCR team boss Lucio Cecchinello expressed delight at the recovery progress, saying the team will take it step by step but is eager to have him back.
