Johann Zarco has strongly backed Honda's strategic decision to promote LCR team-mate Diogo Moreira to the factory HRC squad for the 2027 MotoGP season. The experienced French rider described the young Brazilian as a top rider who thoroughly deserves the milestone promotion into the premier class factory garage.
The move comes after Moreira delivered Honda's sole official podium of the season so far during an impressive performance in the Motegi Sprint. With this proven capability, he is set to join newly signed star Fabio Quartararo inside the factory HRC team as they revamp their official rider lineup for the upcoming technical regulations era.
Addressing the selection process over 2027 rookie contender David Alonso, Zarco pointed out that Moreira's existing year of premier-class experience makes him a much safer and reliable choice for the factory outfit. He noted that while a rookie could have worked alongside Quartararo, securing predictable results relies heavily on retaining riders who already understand the nuances of the machinery.

Zarco elaborated on the team dynamics during a paddock media session. He stated that the factory team requires two top-tier competitors, and Diogo firmly fits that description based on his trajectory and recent competitive race weekend results.
Ultimately, Zarco emphasized that learning the ropes in an independent structure remains the optimal path for newcomers. He concluded that placing developing talent within the LCR setup allows them to mature properly before stepping up to the intense pressures of a full factory racing environment.
