Losing the absolute fastest rider under your manufacturer umbrella is never an easy pill to swallow for any racing operation. The departure of Xavi Vierge from the Iwata camp to join rival machinery for the upcoming WorldSBK 2026 campaign represents a significant setback. Compounding this challenge, questions remain over whether incoming arrival Jack Miller can immediately fill the void left by the Spaniard without a lengthy adaptation period.

Evaluating the true competitive level within the manufacturer, the Spanish rider clearly stood out as the benchmark especially as the season reached its climax. While Andrea Locatelli struggled to find higher ground with a best finish of 13th in several rounds, Vierge delivered standout performances at Estoril and Jerez, securing a seventh-place finish alongside a pair of ninth positions, with a technical failure in race one at Jerez remaining the only blemish on an otherwise stellar late-season charge.

It came as no surprise that racing director Niccolo Canepa openly expressed deep regret over the rider's decision to switch allegiance to the Barni Racing Ducati customer outfit. The technical feedback and tireless work ethic provided throughout the year have been highlighted as fundamental assets that pushed the entire garage forward.

"He never stopped pushing the team, and his feedback was always precise. We thank him for his commitment and professionalism and wish him the absolute best for the next steps of his career," Canepa emphasized regarding the departing talent.

Canepa further added praise for the strong race pace demonstrated during the final European rounds. At Estoril, the pace translated into double top-ten finishes highlighted by a seventh in the Superpole Race, while Jerez witnessed a fierce fighting spirit in the sprint events, featuring breathtaking late-race maneuvers on the final lap.

The championship standings ultimately saw Vierge conclude the campaign in 13th position with 113 points, just narrowly behind teammate Locatelli who secured 12th with 121 points after benefiting from fewer non-finishes. Yamaha must now regroup quickly to redefine its technical direction.
