Xavi Vierge to Leave Yamaha in 2026, Miller Poised for Replacement?

Xavi Vierge is officially set to part ways with Yamaha at the end of the 2026 WorldSBK season, sparking speculation that Jack Miller could take over his seat at Pata Maxus Yamaha for 2027.

The 29-year-old Spaniard has had just one season with the Japanese manufacturer, with his contract expiring at the end of the current campaign. The decision comes as Vierge continues to struggle with the challenging Yamaha YZF-R1, currently sitting 13th in the championship standings with a best finish of sixth place at Assen and Portimao.

Vierge's departure is part of a major reshuffle across the WorldSBK grid, with several MotoGP riders linked to moves to the series. Miller is heavily tipped to replace Vierge, but the Spaniard's WorldSBK career appears far from over. He is rumored to be in pole position to replace compatriot Alvaro Bautista at Barni Spark Racing, riding a Ducati Panigale V4R.

Yamaha management acknowledged Vierge's contributions despite a tough season. Niccolo Canepa, Road Racing Sporting Manager at Yamaha Motor Europe, praised his professionalism and determination. "Xavi has shown incredible professionalism and dedication throughout 2026. We are sad to see him go but grateful for his commitment," Canepa said.

Paul Denning, Team Principal of Pata Maxus Yamaha, also expressed deep appreciation. "Xavi adapted quickly to the R1, with raw speed, bravery, and technical clarity. We will miss a superb rider and a special person," Denning said. "The team's door will always be open for him."

With this development, the 2027 WorldSBK rider market is set to heat up, as Yamaha's decision opens the door for Miller to potentially return to the series after his MotoGP stint.
