WRC Sweden 2026, Sportrik Media Oliver Solberg has shifted his focus toward maximising championship points after losing momentum in the battle for victory at his home event.

The Toyota driver, who sensationally won the season opener in Monte Carlo, surrendered the rally lead on Friday while running first on the road in challenging snow conditions. On Saturday, Solberg recovered from sixth to fourth overall, but the gap to the podium positions proved too significant to close.

He remains just under a minute behind rally leader and team-mate Elfyn Evans. Fellow Toyota drivers Takamoto Katsuta and Sami Pajari also sit ahead of him in the standings.

“The target was fourth or maybe even third, but Sami has done an outstanding job,” Solberg admitted.

“Perhaps I have to be satisfied with fourth place.”

With a deficit of over 30 seconds to Pajari heading into Sunday’s three remaining special stages, Solberg acknowledged that a podium finish would likely require more than pure pace alone.

“The gap was half a minute this morning and it remains similar now. The plan for Sunday is to drive consistently and collect as many points as possible. If we execute well, we should still be in a strong position in the World Championship,” he explained.

Super Sunday offers additional points to the five fastest drivers across the day’s stages, while the Power Stage provides further bonus opportunities. For Solberg, the emphasis has now shifted from chasing the podium to consolidating valuable championship points in the early phase of the 2026 WRC campaign.
