Sebastien Ogier began managing his advantage at WRC Finland 2026 with a conservative approach on SS9 Hohko 2, prioritising his overall position rather than chasing the stage win ahead of the Harju super special stage.
Ogier completed the test 14.7 seconds slower than Adrien Fourmaux, who set the fastest time. The Toyota driver stressed that the conditions were extremely demanding and that his priority was simply to reach the finish without making a mistake that could threaten his advantage.
“I drove this stage very safely. It was extremely demanding. The only goal was to get through cleanly. I think we’ve done a good job today,” Ogier said at the stage finish.
Sami Pajari completed SS9 without problems and finished 5.6 seconds faster than Ogier, although he remained 9.1 seconds away from Fourmaux’s winning benchmark. Pajari admitted his performance had still fallen short of his expectations despite retaining third place overall.
“I think Elfyn drove really well. It was another consistent stage from me, but it should have been even better. There were quite a few surprises along the way. There’s still one more stage to go today,” Pajari said.
Oliver Solberg returned to a stronger pace after losing significant time in the heavy rain on the previous stage. He finished just 2.3 seconds behind Fourmaux, but acknowledged that the time lost earlier on Friday afternoon had left his victory challenge considerably more difficult.
After SS9, Ogier leads Elfyn Evans by 18.6 seconds, with Pajari 27.9 seconds behind the leader and Solberg 42.4 seconds adrift. Friday concludes with SS10 Harju 2 before WRC Finland 2026 continues on Saturday and reaches its finish on Sunday.
