High-voltage drama unfolded on the tarmac as Will Brown had to pull out all the stops to secure a crucial podium finish. Having completed his final pit stop on Lap 142, the Triple Eight racer initially enjoyed a comfortable 10-second buffer over the chasing pack. However, the complexion of the race shifted dramatically when Brodie Kostecki emerged from the pits following the longest first stint among the front-runners, armed with tyres that were 10 laps fresher.

With just over 10 laps remaining, a five-second deficit was aggressively eaten away by the Dick Johnson Racing charger. Lapping up to two seconds quicker than the Ford Mustang ahead, Kostecki quickly hunted down his rival, reaching his gearbox by Lap 155. What followed was a vintage display of hard-nosed touring car defense as Brown scrambled to protect his position on the track.

Tension boiled over when Kostecki looked for a way through at the inside of Hell Corner on Lap 156, prompting an immediate defensive block from Brown. The aggressive positioning caught the attention of race control instantly, resulting in a black-and-white bad sportsmanship flag being waved in record time. "When they said that’s Brodie coming out of the pits, I was like, ‘oh jeez, this isn’t gonna be good’," Brown recalled of the tense sequence.

The adrenaline-fueled battle escalated as the pair traded paint while charging up Mountain Straight, jockeying fiercely for every inch of tarmac. Although joking afterward that he should have hooked his opponent, Brown insisted that the hard racing never crossed the line into genuine danger. Both drivers relished the intense wheel-to-wheel combat under the intense pressure of the closing laps.

The decisive moment finally arrived at Murray’s Corner when Kostecki executed a brilliant dummy and block pass, securing the crucial position just moments before a major crash at Forrest’s Elbow neutralized the race. "It was a great battle," Kostecki reflected, acknowledging the sheer pace advantage provided by his superior rubber in the dying stages of the endurance classic.
