With Charles Leclerc potentially facing a scheduling clash between his Formula 1 commitments and the birth of his baby, intense attention has turned to Ferrari and their emergency reserve driver plans. The Monegasque driver insists he will not miss a Grand Prix when his first child arrives, but the Scuderia has reportedly lined up a reliable stand-in just in case.
Leclerc and his wife Alexandra are expecting their first child during the final weeks of the 2026 Formula 1 season. With five demanding long-haul races remaining on the calendar, starting in Mexico City this weekend, the championship contender faces a demanding travel schedule.
“I don’t think I’ll miss a race, but obviously I’ll do absolutely everything to be at home as much as possible in between those races,” Leclerc said in Austin. “So, I might arrive a little bit late. But I will be doing the races on Sunday.”

Should an unexpected absence occur, it is understood that Ferrari Driver Academy member Dino Beganovic is the leading candidate to step in alongside Lewis Hamilton. The 22-year-old Swede is competing in Formula 2 this season and has already gained valuable cockpit experience by driving in FP1 sessions in Barcelona and Austria earlier this year.
Other alternatives like Antonio Giovinazzi face scheduling conflicts with the World Endurance Championship, leaving the young academy prospect as the prime choice. Leclerc currently sits fifth in the drivers’ standings while Ferrari holds a solid second place in the constructors' championship.
