Max Verstappen endured a disrupted start to his weekend at Marina Bay after suffering a frustrating radio failure during opening practice, with the Red Bull squad forced into quick repairs inside the garage. The Dutchman's opening running did not go to plan as technical gremlins immediately hampered his run programme at the demanding street circuit.
The reigning world champion managed just 22 laps over the course of the session, placing him among the drivers with the lowest mileage. His initial stint was abruptly cut short after completing only seven laps on the hard tyre compound, prompting anxious mechanics to immediately surround the car upon its return to the pit lane.

Team management elaborated on the issue while running was still ongoing, detailing how the driver had completely lost audio connection with the pit wall, leaving race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase stranded without a way to relay vital setup and traffic information.

Addressing the frustrating hiccup, the team explained to media that having no radio communication during the opening run makes everyone's lives significantly more difficult, which explained why the driver was seen stepping out of the car while mechanics scrambled to fix the hardware.
Despite the setback and opting against a qualifying simulation on soft tyres unlike his direct rivals, Max Verstappen salvaged sixth place. Entering the event fresh off his maiden win of the year in Sepang, the team remains cautious as four major constructor outfits continue to trade performance margins.
