Dries Van Langendonck continued his impressive form by setting the fastest time on the second day of the Formula Regional Europe (FREC) post-season test at Hockenheim. The MP Motorsport driver edged out Alex Ninovic by a mere 0.001 seconds.
The morning session started on a wet track, but as a dry line emerged, times began to drop. Yuki Sano of R-ace GP posted the fastest time of the session, though almost nine-tenths down on his previous best. Tricky conditions led to over an hour of running lost due to eight red flags in the three-hour morning session.
In the afternoon, conditions improved significantly, allowing every driver to set their best time of the day. Van Langendonck, who had been displaced from the top by Ninovic in the final hour, fought back and set a 1m35.215s in the last 15 minutes to pip Ninovic by just 0.001s.
His MP Motorsport teammate, Rocco Coronel, was again consistently at the front, finishing third, only 0.006s adrift of the top two. Meanwhile, F1 Academy driver Alisha Palmowski impressed once more, finishing just one-tenth down on her more experienced teammate Ninovic.
Further back, Ary Bansal of Trident Motorsport took fourth after a troubled morning (only three laps). He was followed by Oleksandr Bondarev (R-ace GP) and Yuki Sano (R-ace GP). Italian F4 driver Oscar Repetto split the R-ace trio by edging ahead of Kenzo Craigie for seventh.
There were changes in the driver lineup at Prema and ART Grand Prix. Tomass Stolcermanis and Alp Aksoy were out for the Italian team, while Taito Kato, the Monza FIA F3 race winner, replaced Alexandre Munoz at ART. Kato, seemingly getting acquainted with the new Tatuus T-326 chassis ahead of Macau, ended the day in ninth, just ahead of his teammate Matteo Giaccardi.
With competition heating up, the FREC test at Hockenheim serves as a proving ground for young drivers ahead of the 2026 season. Van Langendonck, a McLaren junior, continues to show his class, while other F1 juniors like Coronel, Bondarev, and Craigie are also pushing hard.
